๐๐๐๐ ? - The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is the brains filter and gives us some science-based evidence why visualization meditation works.
If you are rolling your eyes at the phrase visualization mediation and thinking the words "Woo Woo" then this is for you. Listen Up!
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a bundle of nerves at our brainstem that filters out unnecessary information so the important things get through. It consists of a network of neurons in the central portion or core of the brainstem from the medulla through the pons and midbrain.
๐๐๐ ? We canโt possibly take in the full amount of stimulus from all 5 of our senses and our subconscious thoughts all at one time. Our brains filters informaiton, caches data and creates muscle memory independent of our conscious thoughts.
This explains why we can drive a car on a busy road without thinking about it after some experience. Why If we hear about a book or learn a new word we suddenly start hearing and seeing it everywhereโฆIt was always there; our RAS just didnโt filter it in.
We can tune out a crowd full of talking people in a room, yet immediately snap to attention when someone says your name or something that sounds like itโฆ RAS
Visualization Meditation allows us to program the filter of our RAS.
๐๐จ๐ฐ ? - We can program the RAS with Visualization. Our Brains canโt tell the difference between a real or imagined memory. If youโve suffered resentment or procrastination than you can relate. Both are living the perceived wreckage of the future or the past over and over but in present day. We feel it as if it were happening today.
Answer the Question :
What actions can I take today that aligns with the VISION of the person I want my future self to be?
